Free-to- air digital satellite television platform, OpenView HD is headed to the Eastern Cape as part of its programme to enhance learning in schools around the country by providing big screen television sets and OpenView HD decoders to schools around the country. This programme is done in partnership with the South African Department of Communications. The dates set for the handover are 17 and 18 July 2014.

“We are excited to be adding some enthusiasm to the way children learn, by providing them with access top quality educational channels on OpenView HD. Eastern Cape produced one of the foremost leaders of our time, Nelson Mandela; we are privileged to be actively involved in producing the next generation of excellence,” says Maxwell Nonge, MD of Platco Digital (a sister company to e.tv and a division of Sadibo Investments (Pty) Ltd).

Amongst the 10 schools that will be part of the handover are J.S Skenjana Senior Secondary School in Idutywa, Milton Mbekela High School in Qunu and the Mandela School of Technology in Mvezo. The schools will be graced by the honourable Deputy Minister of Communications Stella Ndabeni- Abrahams, who will be addressing the schools.

As part of the exciting programme, Chief Mandla Mandela and the Deputy Minister of Communications will unveil a Mandela statue in Mvezo, to commemorate International Mandela Day on the 18 July 2014. Dynamic personality Khabonina Qubeka, who presents Gym eKasi on OpenView HD channel eKasi+, will be performing at the event.

The schools receiving the decoders and television sets, will have access to a fantastic selection of educational channels on OpenView HD, including Mindset TV (channels 201) focuses on Maths and Science from Grades 10 to 12, Da Vinci Learning (channel 202)  which provides learning for the whole family and eToonz+ (channel 200); each offering a bouquet of innovative, varied, quality learning shows for the curious mind.

Thus far 10 schools in the Free State have been sponsored with TV sets and OVHD decoders; as well as Mphethu Mahlase Secondary School in Orange farm, Gauteng. Following the Eastern Cape drive, OpenView HD will be targeting schools in Limpopo province. All of these initiatives are aimed at elevating the teaching and learning environments.
